We WILL Find a Cure!

I cannot thank the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society enough for all that they've done for me over the years. I am getting ready to partner with my local chapter, The LLS of N.E. & Central Florida in bringing awareness to the community. Wherever you are in the world, I highly recommend getting involved either through volunteering, participating in the Light The Night Walks or other events. I know that together, we WILL find a cure for blood cancers!

Why?

Why did we get Lymphoma?  Was it something we ate?  Our environment?  Why?  Why?  Why?
Unfortunately, we will never find the answers to these questions. But, if we focus on getting better and living authentically, someday we will find peace.

IT'S OFFICIAL! HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Good Morning!

In my "other life" I used to be an early childhood educator and my first children's book was just released on Amazon.com! It is the first in a series and I am so excited about it! If you do not own a Kindle, you can download it directly to your PC. It conveys a message that I feel is so important...that our hearts and minds are all connected. One of the things we need to do when times get tough, are to sit, and BE! Good advice for both young and old! Here is the link, please pass it on...thanks!

Listen....

One thing I have learned, is to listen to my body. If something doesn't feel right, I take time to monitor my symptoms and go to my doctor if need be. We are all born with an internal "knowing" - get in tune with your body and listen to its subtle messages.

Mesothelioma - A Silent Killer

This is Bruce Vento. Bruce was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for over two decades. He died of plural Mesothelioma in October 2000. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. It kills 90-95% of those who are diagnosed with it.

Cancer is cancer. When I was asked if I could please spread the word about Mesothelioma, I was more than happy to do so. One of my best friends lost her father to this cancer so I was no stranger to it. Whenever we are called to patient advocacy, it holds no discrimination. We are all in the cancer fight together.

I've included an informative video that explains the way this disease develops and how it touches so many people - people who succumb to the disease as well as those who are left behind. Please click on the link to view:

Bruce's wife, Susan is the spokesperson for The Asbestos Cancer Victim's Rights Campaign and she is very active in it's cause. She is one strong, lovely woman who wants to help others. In her words,
"Thank you for joining me in my fight to educate people about such a deadly disease. Our ultimate goal is to help those who have suffered from all forms of cancer in their struggle to seek health and justice." You can read more about Susan's advocacy by clicking the link below:

Thank you, Bruce for your service to this country, and to you, Susan for helping to make a difference.

Can There Be Love After A Diagnosis?

As many of you know by now, I was divorced after twenty four years of marriage - a little over a month after my diagnosis.  I honestly thought my chances of finding love again after Lymphoma was impossible.  Would someone want to take a chance on me?  I miss being in love.  Being alone is suddenly not an option for me.  I am the last of the great romantics.  I want to find someone who will sweep me off my feet and who will make our first date become our happy ending.  Kathleen has nicknamed me Pollyanna, but I am hopeful!

Just recently, I saw the following article in the Huffington Post.  It is a heart-warming story and makes me wonder if there IS someone out there for me???

Have any of you found love after your diagnosis?  If so, I'd love to hear all about it!  Please leave your comments below...give us all some hope for the future!

ANNOUNCING - LIGHT THE NIGHT!!!

As you know by now, I am such a huge fan of the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
They have been there for me since I was diagnosed in 2009 and not only have I participated in their Patient Education webinar / teleseminar series, I've also benefited from their co-pay assistance program.

Now, it is MY turn to give back! I will be helping to raise money for their Light The Night Walk that will be hosted in Jacksonville, Florida on November 7th, 2013. It is the least I can do for this wonderful organization! I know that November is seven months away, but I wanted to give you all a "heads-up" to let you know that I'll be setting up a
Living La Vida (Lymphoma)
donation page soon!!!

Thanks so much for your continued support of this blog -
STAY TUNED!
