Dare to dream ....

I'll admit it.  I'm envious.  My friend Kathleen has the most vivid dreams. She can remember them from start to finish most nights. Me? Far and few in between.  It frustrates me.  She's given me pointers and has urged me to keep a pen and a pad of paper on the nightstand to jot things down.  With my chronic insomnia, I rarely make it to the R.E.M. state I need in order to meet Mr. Sandman.  Once in a great while, I'll remember a dream.  It's most likely of loved ones who have passed on to the other side. To me, those are the extremely important ones and I usually remember them in their entirety.
So, until I'm able to attain a normal sleep pattern, sans Prednisone, I'll continue to dream in pure daylight, for that is when I am most productive!

LIVING LA VIDA (LYMPHOMA) is now available on Amazon!

Ever feel as if you are on a "hamster wheel?"  Finding yourself making the same mistakes over and over again?  Picking the wrong people in your life, be they lovers or friends?  Staying in the same job that you absolutely dread going to work for each and every day?  Well, I used to live that way.  Cancer changed all that!  Once I realized how fragile life can be, I gained the strength I needed to move on and change my life for the better. Sometimes it takes something earth shattering to occur that enables us to see the "big picture."  Like an invisible smack upside the head from the Universe that says, :"Listen, ya dummy!  Life doesn't have to be so hard"!  It IS what you make of it and nothing will change until YOU take that first step!"
See what needs to be changed in your life and go from is too short!

Spiritual Sunday....

This is one of my favorite artists to meditate to.  On this beautiful Sunday, turn on the speakers, tune out all of the outside noises and close your eyes...let the music take you away...feel the love!!!

Bask in the glory that today is a new day!  Why wish for a "do-over" when you can have a clean slate with each dawn?
Back before I got my diagnosis when I was sick yet had no answers, that was a low point, for sure.  Even then, I decided that as bad as it was, there was always the hope for a brighter tomorrow and that is what kept me going on a daily basis.  Baby steps, Beloveds....the love is there....

Remember this...

Going through each day with cancer can make you forget what is REAL.  You may get caught up in the struggle, but try to break free and remember that what is truly important is inside you.  You are NOT cancer.  You may have been diagnosed with cancer, but it is only a label.  You can either let it consume you or you can re-member to continue to be the person you were all along....

Ya Gotta Trust...

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to lose control!  It was a big feat coming from someone who is uber-organized and was used to her "safe routine!"  As you well know, getting a cancer diagnosis pulls the rug right out from under you.  Suddenly, I scrambled to try to maintain the life and routine that I had prior to getting sick." HA-HA!,"  Life screamed back at me, "I'll show YOU how its gonna be!"
I tried to fight it but my fatigue and daily struggles got the better of me - I finally had to relinquish control and give it all up to a Higher Power.  It scared the hell outta me at first because I was so used to working hard and burning the candle at both ends and now I was lucky if I could even get up out of bed at times.  But, once I let go, I learned to trust that everything would be taken care of.  And guess what?  I found out that there were others out there like me who were on similar journeys and I allowed life to lead ME wherever I needed to be.  It's been hard, but learning to trust again has been so healing for me and now I try not to worry so much about where I am going...

I'm Not Finished Yet!

I always joke around that I am never going to die because I have too much left to accomplish in this life!!!  And I mean it!  As long as I stay busy and keep my mind focused on the positives, I forget all about the negatives! HAPPY MONDAY!

Surround Yourself -

One of the things I've learned since my diagnosis is this - I let go of people and things in my life that brought toxicity and drama and chaos and moved on. Things began to change.  I grew stronger than I ever thought possible and now I surround myself with those who love me unconditionally and I've learned to cherish ME!

All Along Our Paths -

Ever had times when you meet someone at just the right moment?  All along my journey, there have been so many uncanny "meetings."  I call these people my Angels on earth.

One morning on my way to work, and just before I ended up being hospitalized, I was sitting at a red light with my window down. Exhausted emotionally and physically.  All of a sudden, I heard a man who was sitting in the car next to me say, "Smile!" When I did, he said, "There ya go! You are beautiful!  Have a wonderful day!"  My spirit was uplifted when I needed uplifting the most.  That's all it takes ... a few kind words to change a person's day!  When you become more aware of these "chance meetings," you will find the miracles in everyday life!

An Authentic Life...

When you wake up in the morning, do you like who is reflected back at you while you are gazing into the bathroom mirror?  Aside from all of the wrinkles and blemishes and other faults you may find with your egoist-self, do you like who you see?
If we chose to live the authentic life that we came to this planet to live, then the answer should be a resounding, "YES!"  Is your job one that is rewarding and satisfying, or do you dread going to work every day?  Is your relationship with your significant other a loving one?  Do you get to do the things that allow you to create and build and experience aside from your regular duties?
In my soon-to-be-published book, Living La Vida (Lymphoma), I go into depth in regards to the benefits of living an authentic life.  One that is nurturing and inspires you to greet each day with joy and promise.  Once I made that connection to Source, or my inner Spirit, things began to change for the better.  Writing is my passion.  I have a knack for helping others with their businesses and ideas.  I go with the flow and opportunities arise out of nowhere effortlessly.  That, I've found, is the key to living authenically.  If it is a "struggle," then it is not what is meant to be.
A very good friend of mine embarked on a new journey and a new career choice.  After only two weeks, he discovered it was NOT how he imagined it to be and he decided to "quit" the training program.  He felt defeated. He struggled with the "whys and the shoulda-woulda-couldas."  I let him continue with his self-imposed guilt trip and then I commended him for realizing that this career path, this choice, was not for him!  He grew silent. I told him that it was a "gift" to discover early on that this job was NOT the one for him!  He had listened to Spirit, trusted his gut instincts and knew he could not continue with that training program!  BRAVO!
We get stuck in our lives when we do not listen to what our hearts and instincts are telling us.  If it is a struggle.  If we don't feel safe.  If we dwell on the "right" thing that society puts upon us, then we are not living an authentic life.
My friend learned a valuable lesson.  Always know that we have choices in life!  That career wasn't meant for him.  Something better will come along that is more conducive to his wants and needs, maybe not in an instant, but when his thoughts align with the work he puts into finding what IS right for him.  So, dear ones, take baby steps to finding your bliss!  The love is there...

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You know, I'm a rather brilliant surgeon. Perhaps I can help you with that hump.

 Igor: What hump?
Young Frankenstein is one of my all-time favorite movies!  Igor did not see his hump as a flaw.  The side effects I've had from my treatments took a toll on me.  I no longer saw the "real me" any more when I looked in the mirror.  It took me a long time to get over my bodily flaws.  When I finally did accept the changes, I decided to be thankful for the drugs that were helping me, and I am now on a journey of re-discovering my "old body" once again...humps and all!

Life may be like a roller coaster, but the outcome depends on how you handle each twist and turn!

Saturday, February 2, 2013

I learned this lesson when I was diagnosed ... we can't control our destiny, but we can allow life to surprise us in it's own way.
